January 5, Sgt. Gaffney arrested Manuel Quintanilla, age 29 of North Bergen, on an outstanding traffic warrant.
January 5, A resident reported being an identity theft victim and over $6,000.00 was taken from an account.
January 5, A resident reported receiving harassing phone calls from a scam credit company requesting contact information of a friend.
January 6, A Southgate Road resident reported the theft of a wallet from an apartment.
January 6, A resident reported an attempted fraud. A fraudulent e-mail was received allegedly from a friend requesting money be wired because they were mugged in London. The friends e-mail had been hacked. The resident did not fall victim to the scam.
January 12, An IPOD was reported stolen from a gym locker at the New Providence High School.
January 12, A Dorr Road resident reported someone attempted to open a front door. At 9:00 p.m. the resident was home and heard someone placing a key in the front door and try to open it. No entry was made.
January 12, Cpl. Henn took into custody a juvenile on Club Drive for possession of marijuana. Union County K-9 assisted.
January 12, Det. Carroll charged Steven Hartenstein, age 46 of New Providence, with 3 counts of deceptive business practice, 3 counts of theft by deception, 2 counts of theft by unlawful taking and one count of fraud. One of the counts relates to flat screen televisions that were shipped to a business in Berkeley Heights. Those televisions have not yet been recovered and will be entered into NCIC as stolen.
