On February 11th, 2009 Robert Walker, age 22, of Berkeley Heights N.J. walked into police headquarters and surrendered himself, after he was notified by the municipal court of several outstanding motor vehicle warrants. Mr. Walker was processed and transported to Union County Jail pending a New Providence Municipal Court hearing.
On February 14th, 2009 at 2:38 a.m. Molly Burke, age 21, of North Plainfield was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Officer Andrew Diamond observed Miss Burke sitting in her vehicle at a corporate parking lot on Mountain Avenue and approached her to see if she needed assistance. Officer Diamond realized that Miss Burke was impaired and she was subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing. She was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and released on her own recognizance to a relative pending a New Providence Municipal Court hearing.
On February 18th, 2009 at 1:09 p.m. police responded to a motor vehicle accident at South Street and Central Avenue. Patrolman Andrew Diamond arrived on scene and quickly determined that one of the drivers was intoxicated. Mr. William Babbitt, age 47 of New Providence was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, Refusal to Submit to Breath Test and Reckless Driving. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and released on his own recognizance to a family member with a scheduled New Providence Municipal Court appearance in.
On February 19th, 2009 at 11:21 a.m. police received a call from a motorist on South Street reporting a possible drunk driver. Officer DiParisi stopped the vehicle in question minutes later near South Street and approached the driver, Thoranath Sukumarin, age 57 of New Providence. Officer DiParisi determined Mr. Sukumarin to be intoxicated and placed him under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters where he was processed charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He was released to a family member pending a New Providence Municipal Court hearing.
