An Edgewood Drive resident reported that her 1995 Toyota was broken into sometime between January 29th and the 30th as it was parked in her driveway. The ignition had been tampered with in an attempt to steal the vehicle but the attempt failed. If anyone has any information please call the New Providence Police Department at 908-665-1111.
On February 1st, 2009 at 2:45 a.m. the police department experienced a power outage. Sgt. Gazaway immediately ordered all available patrol cars to check the areas near the center of Town for possible motor vehicle accidents. Corporal Drown located a vehicle on Jane Road near Springfield Avenue that had obviously been involved in an accident. The driver was identified as Arthur Smallman, age 22 of New Providence and had struck a utility pole and a parked vehicle on Jane Road as he was traveling south, sheering the pole in half. Mr. Smallman was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was released to a relative with a municipal court hearing in New Providence. Power was restored to the area at about 2:00 p.m.
