Captain Wayne Maurer

Captain Maurer joined the New Providence Police Department in September 1984 and was assigned to the Patrol Division. He has served in many capacities in the police department, including, Patrolman, Detective Sergeant and Captain. His assignments include eight years as a member of the Union County Emergency Response Team and Essex/Union Auto Theft Tasks Force.

Captain Maurer is a Police Training Commission Certified Instructor in Defensive Tactics and PR-24 Baton. He has been awarded a Certificate in Supervisory Management from the NJ Certified Public Managers Program.

Captain Maurer is assigned as the Patrol Commander for the police department. This is the largest division in the department, consisting of four Sergeants, four Corporals, eight Patrolmen, and four Civilian Dispatchers.
Captain Maurer also oversees the Auxiliary Police Unit, which is comprised of trained civilian volunteers who supplement our department at large scale events and assists us in many other ways.
