Community Services Bureau

Captain Wayne Maurer

Captain Maurer joined the New Providence Police Department in September 1984 and was assigned to the Patrol Division. He has served in many capacities in the police department including, Patrolman, Detective, Traffic Officer, Sergeant and Captain. Assignments have included 8 years with the Union County Emergency Response Team, he has also been assigned to the Union / Essex County Auto Theft Task Force. 

Captain Maurer is a Police Training Commission Certified Instructor in Defensive Tactics and PR-24 Baton at the John H. Stamler Police Academy. He also holds certifications from the State of New Jersey Certified Public Managers Program.

Captain Maurer is the Commander of the Community Services Bureau of the Police Department.  This Bureau handles all criminal investigations, traffic bureau functions,  Juvenile Bureau, and crossing guards. The CSB is also responsible for the coordination of the Crime Prevention  / Neighborhood Watch Program and the Senior Citizen Liaison Program.

The Community Services Bureau currently has five Investigators assigned to handle various roles within this bureau.

• Sergeant Theresa Gazaway- Accreditation and Professional Standards, General Investigations
• Sergeant Eric Nobbs – Investigations Supervisor and Juvenile Officer
• Investigator Robert Carroll – General Investigations, Property and Evidence
• Investigator Allen Sprague- General Investigations, Identifications Officer
• Investigator Dennis Carovillano- School Resource Officer and juvenile
