Battery Recycling
Beginning January 1, 2010, household batteries will no longer need to be recycled. They may be placed in the trash. Rechargeable batteries should still be recycled by dropping them off at the New Providence Memorial Library or DPW yard.
PSE&G Vegetation Management - Tree Removal
PSE&G will begin work to maintain proper tree clearance from power lines. PSE&G ownes the electric transmission right-of-way adjacent to your property. Vegetation on this right-of-way now requires maintenance. Work is scheduled to begin on or about December 28, 2009 and be completed within 30 days. Update on Oakwood Park
At the January 25, 2010 Borough Council meeting, council members unanimously agreed with a proposal by Mayor Thoms to place the sale of Oakwood Park and River property to Union County in exchange for $3,500,000 of improvements on the ballot as a referendum.

Leaf Collection Update
Vacuuming is now available for a $50 seasonal fee.
Residents can bring applications or mail them to the Clerk’s Office, 360 Elkwood Avenue, New Providence.
The Borough will continue to provide weekly curbside leaf collections at no cost for residents who place their leaves in containers (reusable or paper bags).

The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has opened a toll-free telephone line for the general public to call in regard to H1N1 Influenza and Vaccine. The telephone line will be operational Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

The State of NJ has again approved funding for the Property Tax Reimbursement Program (a.k.a. property tax freeze program). This program was first made available in 1998. This program reimburses qualified applicants for the property tax increases they incur each year.
